During the Great Depression, it beat people up physically and literally. No matter how hard people used to work, they were struggling to provide food, a home, or to pay the bills, or even all of these. Over 12 million people were unemployed, that is about 25% of the work force during this time. The reason I decided to draw two boxers and one is getting beaten up is because of the story of Jim Braddock. He was a boxer who lost it all during the depression and worked so hard to provide for his kids. He then had a come up again with boxing and was able to finally provide after years of struggling and not eating so his kids could get full. This helps me realize I am lucky enough to live in a different time period where the economic state isn't as bad. I am fortunate enough to have food on the table and a roof over my head with shoes on my feet when some back then weren't able to have either of those things.
